Cloud Provider Datapipe Makes Key Addition to Board of Directors

By R&D Editors | July 12, 2012

Cloud provider, Datapipe, a global provider of managed services and infrastructure for outsourced IT and cloud computing, today announced the company has made a strategic addition to its Board of Directors. Industry veteran Admiral Robert C. “Willie” Williamson brings to Datapipe a broad range of experience in developing market strategy, competitive assessments, and strategic analysis for its cloud computing, virtualization, compliance, business continuity, disaster recovery and other offerings.

A former commanding officer of the USS Nimitz, Admiral Williamson has held leadership positions at Raytheon Company, Microsoft Corporation and The Severn Group, LLC. As Microsoft’s first flag officer employee, he was responsible for sales, business development, and the capture/proposal process for the $1.6 billion Public Sector business. At Microsoft, he created and was accountable for the company’s first-ever global government strategy and developed an Executive Partner Engagement methodology to build strong and beneficial relationships with the community of System Integrators that serve Federal and State & Local clients.

“Datapipe has achieved consistent growth by staying focused on providing industry-leading support and value to our clients. Part of our success is the guidance of a top-level board consisting of leading industry experts, with a rich history in advising successful companies,” said Robb Allen, Datapipe CEO. “We’re very pleased to have Admiral Williamson as the newest member of our Board of Directors and are confident he will be instrumental to achieving our next stage of growth.”

While at Raytheon, Admiral Williamson was responsible for its Navy C3I and ForceNet strategies, as well as leading its global communications unit, headquartered in London, UK. In these capacities, over $900 million in sales were attributed to programs awarded to Raytheon. The Admiral also served as an instrumental member of Senator Obama’s National Security Campaign team. In this role, he exercised leadership within the team to highlight the need for greater transparency regarding cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and accelerated the introduction of technologies required to resolve and mitigate cyber issues.

“Datapipe has a great approach to the market, its credentials are rock solid and well founded on proven technology, it has a cadre of extremely dedicated and experienced employees, and the company is lead by a highly strategic management team,” said Admiral Williamson. “I am excited to add value to their executive team and I am fully committed to assist Datapipe in achieving its next stage of growth.”

Admiral Williamson graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School and the Naval War College. Executive level education was completed at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
