Ocarina Networks has found a way to reduce data storage needs by applying data de-duplication and compression algorithms developed in partnership with industry leaders. Ocarina’s solution routinely allows customers to store two to three times more data in their existing storage infrastructure. Ocarina deploys as a companion solution to network attached storage systems, running as out-of-band process to shrink existing data sets. This architecture enables higher levels of algorithm intelligence while using much lower bandwidth.
The Ocarina ECOsystem is made up of two parts: the Optimizer, which shrinks data and files, and the Reader, software that integrates with file servers to decompress the files. The ECOsystem uses algorithms that optimize the compression based on specific patterns within the data itself. The ECOsystem holds more than 100 algorithms that support more than 600 file types, including formats from Affymetrix and Illumina, as well as generic industry formats. This unique approach to storage to online storage optimization stands to help a number of companies in the industry.
