SUNNYVALE, CA — Intersect360 Research, an industry analyst firm providing market forecasting, research and consulting for the worldwide high performance computing (HPC) market, will be the market research partner of Prometeus GmbH, the promoters of the newly re-launched TOP500 information portal. TOP500, long renowned for its semi-annual lists naming the 500 top-performing supercomputers in the world, will now feature ongoing news, research and information about the HPC industry, at http://www.top500.org.
From its ongoing end-user research studies covering HPC and related topics, such as big data and cloud computing, Intersect360 Research will select highlights for the readers of TOP500.org, often in the form of additional “TOP” lists, such as “TOP 50 middleware packages in HPC,” “TOP 5 storage vendors for Big Data,” or “TOP HPC applications for cloud computing.” Senior analyst Michael Feldman will act in a liaison role in selecting the content.
“TOP500 has long been a powerful brand in the HPC industry, and we’re excited to see the Web site take on a more prominent role,” said Addison Snell, CEO of Intersect360 Research. “We are thrilled to contribute our research and analysis to help make TOP500 an alternative source of information for leaders in the HPC industry.”
“We are very pleased to collaborate with Intersect360 Research to offer the HPC community valuable insights into industry and technology trends,” said Thomas Meuer, Managing Director of Prometeus GmbH. “This partnership also enables us to offer exclusive audio content to our readers.
The popular weekly Intersect360 Research podcast “This Week in HPC,” which is hosted by Snell and Feldman, features candid discussions of the latest HPC news and happenings. Intersect360 Research will make the podcast available on TOP500.org, as well as on iTunes and Stitcher, as a weekly feature.
In addition to summary data and podcasts, Intersect360 Research will collaborate with Prometeus on white papers and special reports for TOP500.org. Clients of the Intersect360 Research HPC market advisory service and members of the HPC500 user group will continue to get full access to the data and insights in the full body of Intersect360 Research reports.
Including servers, storage, software and other components for high performance technical computing (HPTC), high performance business computing (HPBC), and ultrascale Internet use cases, Intersect360 Research sizes the worldwide HPC market at $30.5 billion and forecasts it to grow to $38.1 billion in 2018. Intersect360 Research and TOP500 will both be present at the SC14 Conference and Expo, November 16 to 20, where the 44th TOP500 list will be revealed.

About TOP500
The TOP500 list catalogs the world’s fastest 500 supercomputers, based on the popular Linpack benchmark. The first version of the list started as an exercise for a small conference in Germany in June 1993. Out of curiosity, the authors decided to revisit the list in November 1993 to see how things had changed. About that time, they realized they might be on to something and decided to continue compiling the list, which is now a much-anticipated, much-watched and much-debated twice-yearly event. The TOP500 list is compiled by Erich Strohmaier and Horst Simon of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; Jack Dongarra of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and Martin Meuer of Prometeus, Germany.
