FRANKFURT, Germany — The ISC Group, organizers of the annual ISC High Performance series, announced the launch of the ISC Student Cluster Competition (SCC) Alumni Network. Maintained and managed via LinkedIn, the professional networking group was formed to establish and nurture mutually beneficial relationships between SCC team members and the high performance computing (HPC) community.
Along with the HPC Advisory Council (HPCAC), competition co-organizers, the ISC Group opens the SCC Alumni Network LinkedIn group to all past and present SCC competition participants and invites professionals in government, academic and commercial organizations focused on global HPC-based research and development to join this platform of burgeoning practitioners.
“As this Alumni Network is meant to help young people in the field grow their professional career, we request that all hiring organizations also join this group. There is no better place online to search for new talents within the HPC community,” said Martin Meuer, managing director of ISC Group.
“We also hope that the former competitors will actively interact and share their experience with the next generation of teams and, thus, help them in any way possible prepare for the upcoming competition.”
The new alumni group spawned from the annual student competition. Now in its fifth year, the next SCC Competition will be held June 20 to 22 at ISC 2016 in Frankfurt, Germany. Over two days, 12 teams from all over the world will implement technology platforms of their own design to run a mix of industry standard benchmarks and real-world applications within a fixed power budget. The live competition will challenge students to win the real-time race, and thus provide each competitor with hands-on learning of applied HPC — experiences which are critical to advancing their studies and professional skillsets.
“Skilled Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) expertise is critical to creating thriving economies and driving innovation,” said HPC Advisory Council Chairman Gilad Shainer. “Perpetuating our combined goals to provide ongoing mentoring, education along with the camaraderie established between competing teams year over year, the SCC Alumni Network broadens individual team members’ visibility to growing opportunities through access to LinkedIn’s vast professional network to help fulfill the global demand for educated and experienced talent.”
Activities the ISC Group plans to organize in the future on behalf of student team members include opportunities for competitors to convene during the summer conference series and through alumni gatherings, get-togethers, gala receptions and mentoring programs.
