Medical Plastics Company Expanding Manufacturing Unit

By R&D Editors | February 12, 2014

Pexco LLC, a specialty and medical plastics processing company, is expanding its manufacturing location in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. The expansion, designed to support specifically its growing medical division, will include a new building and manufacturing space with a dedicated medical manufacturing cleanroom environment adjacent to its current operation. Pexco plans the expansion to be production-ready by August 2014.

The company presently manufacturers out of a 17,000 ft2 facility featuring a Class 8 cleanroom and 10 production lines. The expansion will add approximately 31,500 ft2 of production and warehouse space to the current footprint with a 7,600 ft2 cleanroom in for the company’s medical division.

“This expansion, coming on the heels of our acquisition of Spectrum Plastics last year, further underscores the focus and commitment of our business to the medical plastics market. Pexco has been in medical plastics for over 50 years and the Baja California region remains a strategic center for medical manufacturing if not the capital of medical device manufacturing in North America,” says Pexco President Neil Shillingford says. “It is a necessary investment to support our customers, their needs and growth, and the continued success of our Mexicali operation for medical tubing, profile extrusion, and other value-added services. We are thrilled to be able to conduct it.”

Part of Odyssey Investment Partners, LLC and based in Atlanta with 11 plants in the United States and Mexico, Pexco provides standard and specialty parts and components to manufacturers and end-users across aerospace and defense, medical, and industrial markets. Pexco offers a range of custom design, engineering, and fabrication services. Pexco meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2000, ISO 13485: 2003, AS9100C, is ITAR certified, and operates five Class 8 and one Class 7 cleanrooms.
