The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is meeting with Charlotte-based Duke Energy Corp. officials to discuss two apparent safety violations at a nuclear plant inherited after its buyout of Raleigh-based Progress Energy.
The nation’s nuclear regulator and company officials meet Friday in Atlanta to review issues at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant that are considered to be of low to moderate significance.
The NRC says the plant’s emergency operations ventilation system was out of service for extended periods of time over two years. The other apparent violation involves a change the company made to how much unfiltered air could get into the technical support center without a technical basis for the change.
No emergencies occurred requiring the use of either feature during those two years and the problems have since been corrected.
