DENVER, CO — Students and professionals planning to participate in SC13 have until the end of the month to submit proposals for key components of the technical program. The submission deadline for Birds-of-a-Feather sessions, Emerging Technologies, Posters, the ACM Student Research Competition and the Scientific Visualization Showcase is Wednesday, July 31.
SC13, the premier international conference for high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis, will be held Nov. 17 – 22 at the Colorado Convention Center. Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, SC features a world-class technical program as well as tutorials, workshops, exhibits, the Exhibitor Forum, and programs that target educators, students and groups that have been under-represented in high performance computing (HPC).
Birds-of-a-Feather submissions
Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) sessions give conference attendees an informal, non-commercial setting to openly discuss topics of mutual interest. They are among the most interactive, popular and well-attended sessions of the conference each year, and emphasize audience-driven discussion, professional networking and grassroots participation. SC13 will continue this tradition with a full schedule of exciting, informal, interactive sessions focused around topics of mutual interest. BoFs are open to all exhibitors and technical program conference participants and cover a wide range of HPC-related topics, including: applications and programming environments; computing, storage, networking and analysis techniques; systems administration and data center operations; emerging technologies and architectures for HPC; and government and group initiatives.

Emerging Technologies submissions
The Emerging Technologies Track, a new element of the SC Technical Program this year, will provide a showcase on the SC13 exhibit floor for novel projects with a national or international scope. Unlike other components of the technical program, Emerging Technologies will focus on discussions of large-scale, long-term efforts in high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis rather than on recent research results of a project. An Emerging Technologies booth in a central location of the SC13 show floor will facilitate displays, presentations and spontaneous discussions among participants and visitors. The conference welcomes exhibitions of hardware prototypes and demonstrations of software as well as project presentations in poster form, animated displays, and scheduled presentations or discussions. Successful submissions will highlight future technologies with the potential to influence computing and society as a whole.

Posters/ACM Student Research Competition
SC13 seeks posters in both print and electronic formats that display cutting-edge research and work in progress in high performance computing, storage, networking and analysis. The conference accepts three categories of posters: technical, ACM Student Research Competition (SRC), and education. All posters are peer reviewed by experts in HPC research and technology or HPC education. Posters will be prominently displayed for the duration of the conference, giving presenters a chance to showcase their latest results and innovations. They will be digitally archived and made publicly available after the conference.
The ACM SRC, sponsored by Microsoft Research, features posters from undergraduate and graduate students showcasing original HPC research. Undergraduate and graduate submissions will be evaluated as distinct categories, and undergraduate submissions are strongly encouraged. All students who submit posters must be ACM members.

Scientific Visualization Showcase
Now in its third year, the Scientific Visualization Showcase displays the best in visualization of scientific data and research results in a style similar to a museum or art gallery. The showcase encourages SC attendees to browse and enjoy the latest in science and engineering research results expressed through innovative, state-of-the-art visualization technologies.
