South American Semiconductor Biz Reaches Acquisition Deal

By R&D Editors | January 14, 2014

Corporación America of Argentina will purchase entrepreneur Eike Batista’s 33% stake in SIX Semicondutores. SIX Semicondutores’ factory is in advanced stage of construction in the city of Ribeirão das Neves, Brazil.

The parties and SIX Semicondutores are now arranging all documentation and corporate adjustments for the effective transfer of shares, including the submission of the transaction to the competent authorities, such as CADE (Administrative Council of Economic Defense). As soon as the transaction is completed, the corporate name of the company shall be altered.

SIX Semicondutores is the result of a partnership between SIX Soluções Inteligentes, a company of the EBX Group, as well as BNDES, the Bank of Development of Minas Gerais (BDMG), IBM, Matec Investimentos, and Tecnologia Infinita WS-Intecs.

SIX Semicondutores is a manufacturer of chips for use in industrial applications, precision farming, smart cards, medical applications, and cutting-edge life sciences. The Corporación América Group is a conglomerate which operates in a number of sectors including technology, airports, financial services, roads, energy, and agrobusiness.

The complementary nature of the activities of Unitec Blue and SIX Semicondutores, as well as the potential technological and commercial synergies, bring new business opportunities for both companies with a broad regional development and significant impact in an innovation ecosystem in South America, without losing focus in the global markets.
