Swift Awarded IDC Innovation Excellence Award for Next-gen Virtual Simulation Engineering and Analysis

Swift Engineering was awarded International Data Corporation’s (IDC) ‘Innovation Excellence Award’ at the annual Supercomputing 2011 conference in Seattle, WA, for its continued development of next-generation virtual simulation engineering and analysis for aerospace and motorsports vehicles.San Clemente, CA – Swift Engineering was awarded International Data Corporation’s (IDC) ‘Innovation Excellence Award’ at the annual Supercomputing 2011 conference in Seattle, WA, for its continued development of next-generation virtual simulation engineering and analysis for aerospace and motorsports vehicles.

The award’s distinguished steering committee was comprised of executive decision makers from global corporations using High Performance Computing (HPC) solutions such as NASA, BAE Systems, Boeing, Ford and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The committee recognized Swift and its technical partners’ continued development in aerodynamic design and analysis in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and follows on from Swift’s 2010 HPCWire award for ‘Best HPC Application in Automotive.’

To be recognized by the leaders in the super computer industry as an innovator is primarily the result of enjoying the best HPC resources available to small business through our partners Cray Inc., Altair, Intel, Metacomp Technologies, Platform Computing and Netlist.”

Swift uses a compatible suite of HPC analytical and design software from Altair’s HyperWorks, Metacomp Technologies’ CFD++ and Platform Computing’s cluster management software (Platform HPC) running on a pair of Cray CX1s and Cray CX1000 systems powered by Intel’s Xeon processors with integrated Netlist’s (Nasdaq: NLST) HyperCloudTM memory to further develop aerodynamic designs for its next generation Formula Nippon race car and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

“Traditionally it has been difficult to quantify HPC return on investment benefits, however, Swift provides an excellent and transparent success story,” said Earl C. Joseph II, IDC Program vice president and executive director HPC User Forum. “Swift’s 28-year history of vehicle design innovation in aerospace and motorsports has increased with its HPC resources providing design efficiencies and ultimately better performing products.”

“The IDC Innovation Excellence award is a direct reflection of the significant impact Swift is making in the automotive and aerospace industries,” William Lu, Director of Product Management at Platform Computing. “Swift is a perfect example of a company that is leveraging ground-breaking HPC technologies to solve its complex design problems and increase their efficiency and output.  With Platform HPC, Swift was able to easily administer and manage their cluster without dedicated IT staff.”

Swift will present the first published unsteady (dynamic) passing maneuver between two racecars conducted in CFD in real-time at the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS) held at the Indianapolis Convention Center, December 7th. For more information visit www.imis-indy.com
