PARSIPPANY, N.J. (AP) – Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. said it filed an application with the Food and Drug Administration to market a generic version of the birth control pill Loestrin FE, made by Warner Chilcott.
Warner Chilcott filed a lawsuit in New Jersey district court to block Watson from launching the drug. Branded drugmakers routinely file lawsuits against generic drugmakers to delay the launch of cheaper versions of their drugs.
Loestrin had sales of $86 million for the 12 months ended March 31, according to health care data firm IMS Health.
