WiLAN Acquires Semiconductor Patents from IXYS

By R&D Editors | November 26, 2013

Wi-LAN Inc. has acquired a portfolio of semiconductor patents from IXYS CH GmbH related to microcontroller technology. WiLAN believes the portfolio has current applicability to safety-critical applications used in the aerospace, medical, industrial, and automotive markets. A share of the revenue generated from licensing the acquired patents will be paid to IXYS.

“We are pleased to have acquired these patents from IXYS,” says Jim Skippen, President and CEO. “The portfolio is an example of the quality patents that we seek to license. We assess many possible acquisitions but are very selective in the patents that we will bring into our semiconductor licensing program.”

WiLAN is a technology innovation and licensing company that has licensed its intellectual property to companies that manufacture or sell a wide range of communication and consumer electronics products including 3G and 4G handsets, Wi-Fi-enabled laptops, Wi-Fi and broadband routers, xDSL infrastructure equipment, cellular base stations, and digital TV receivers.
