Executive Profile: Soheil Saadat, Ph.D.

By R&D Editors | May 31, 2004

Executive Profile: Soheil Saadat, Ph.D.

President & CEO, Scientific Software, Inc.

Soheil Saadat, President and Chief Executive Officer of Scientific Software, Inc. (SSI), is a pioneer in laboratory software. Dr. Saadat developed the first Windows-based chromatography data system and has provided the industry with a continuous stream of technical innovations.

In 1990, Dr. Saadat founded Scientific Software, Inc. Under his direction, SSI has become a world leader in the development, sale and support of software systems for the scientific community. The company’s products are used in thousands of laboratories throughout the world, in applications ranging from drug discovery to assuring quality of manufactured materials in the life sciences, food, environmental and chemical markets.

SSI’s Enterprise Content Management solutions enable any company whose most valuable asset is knowledge, to turn data into information, information into knowledge, and knowledge into insightful long-term wisdom.

SSI’s Chromatography Data Systems are used by more than 58,000 sites worldwide, in environments ranging from massive chromatography QA/QC operations to single user workstations.

SSI was launched with the development of the industry’s first Windows-based chromatography data system, called EZChrom. Over the years, SSI has continued to pioneer technology firsts with its EZChrom software, setting the industry standard and becoming the most comprehensive client/server system available in the marketplace. In 2000, EZChrom Elite, was ranked the top chromatography system in the world, according to a report issued by Strategic Directions International (SDi), a leading international consulting firm specializing in analytical instrumentation. Currently, over 25 instrument manufacturers resell private labeled versions of EZChrom Elite for their chromatography software solution.

In 2000, SSI introduced the first truly Web-based Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS), CyberLAB ECMS. CyberLAB ECMS is an electronic library that manages all aspects of collection, indexing and warehousing of any type of electronic record from Office documents to PDF files generated through printing to RAW data files produced by instruments. CyberLAB takes full advantage of Web technologies to make available the information knowledge workers need anywhere anytime and on any device.

“At Scientific Software we are busy developing our next generation products based on XML web services, .NET and thin client computing technologies,” says Dr. Saadat. “We see know-ledge workers accessing information from their PCs at the office, and Palm — like devices when they are mobile. We foresee islands of XML web services that serve different major functions but can seamlessly communicate and exchange data and information to automate the workflow at enterprise level.

“Our new initiative OpenLAB(tm) Laboratory Software Framework is based on two principles. First, is to integrate our core technologies such as data acquisition, enterprise content management, productivity tools, reporting, data mining, and workflow, as one seamless application. Second, is to make our core functionality available to our partners through open standards such as XML Web services to integrate their products with ours and achieve much higher levels of functionality and knowledge worker productivity.

“We are very excited about the future…”
