LifeScale-R’s ability to detect microbial growth earlier than any other commercial technique enables the instrument to be used for both fundamental research, measuring microbial growth and response, or to determine antimicrobial susceptibility in under three hours. A three-hour susceptibility test will allow antibiotic treatment to be tailored to the infection sooner, in some cases by as much as 24 hours, thereby helping to curb the overprescribing of broad-spectrum antibiotics, and preserving the few remaining effective compounds for future generations. LifeScale’s ability to count and individually weigh 100 percent of the microbes in a given sample volume ensures that microbial growth is detected as early as possible, typically within the first cell-division cycle.
