Semblant’s MobileShield, which won a 2016 R&D 100 award, is designed to shield the inner workings of mobile devices from moisture, corrosion, dust, dirt and other contaminants. It also protects against damage caused by spills, dunks and other human mishaps.
By applying this nanotechnology thin-film coating directly to components at the printed circuit board level, today’s mobile devices are protected from the inside out. Unlike seal-based, Parylene-based or external coatings, MobileShield is fully reworkable, meaning that if an electronic component fails within a device, it can be repaired or replaced instead of having to replace the entire unit. This technology saves the industry billions of dollars in return and repair costs, saves consumers money and is positive for the environment.
Each year for more than 50 years, R&D Magazine has honored the 100 best innovations in research and development. We are currently accepting applications for the 2017 R&D 100 Awards. Innovators with an exceptional product developed between January 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017 should apply. Submissions close April 14, 2017
