SpeedPro, which won a 2016 R&D 100 award, is a software suite with an aim to improve safety and productivity of machining operations. It will be deployed on machine tools to allow machining process simulation and optimization of tool paths, and is able to process part program on the machine tool prior to actual machining to geometrically simulate material removal and display updated part geometry; evaluate machining performance and display cutter and machine tool spindle loadings; and optimize feed rates of the process to take corrective actions to eliminate machining failures, reduce scrap part and speed up conservative programs to reduce cycle times.
This product will work directly on machine tool controller and will be served as an option on the machine tool. It is the first product that incorporates theory of cutting force and will reduce the trial and error to find process parameter and increase the overall performance and productivity, which is not possible for existing software packages.
Each year for more than 50 years, R&D Magazine has honored the 100 best innovations in research and development. We are currently accepting applications for the 2017 R&D 100 Awards. Innovators with an exceptional product developed between January 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017 should apply. Submissions close April 14, 2017
