IBM Corp. has completed its $1.3 billion acquisition of human-resources-management company Kenexa Corp. to expand its line of cloud-based software services.
The deal was first announced in late August.
About 2,800 Kenexa workers scattered across the U.S. and 20 other countries are now joining IBM, which is based in Armonk, N.Y. Kenexa is based in Wayne, Pa.
The deal provides IBM with software that helps companies recruit workers and manage employees with the help of networking tools similar to the ones that connect people on Facebook and LinkedIn. Kenexa boasts 8,900 customers.
IBM rivals Oracle Corp. and SAP also have been buying smaller companies that specialize in selling software as online subscription services that are part of a technology movement known as cloud computing. Under this approach, software programs and data are stored in remote data centers so they can be accessed from anywhere on Internet-connected devices.
