Safe Power – Safe and Versatile Aqueous Lithium Ion Batteries
Category: IT/Electrical
Developers: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
Co-Developers: University of Maryland (UMD) and Army Research Laboratory (ARL)
United States
Product Description:APL's lithium ion battery uses a water-based gel polymer electrolyte consisting of highly concentrated salt solutions in a gel polymer matrix. Batteries based on the highly conductive, flexible, free-standing, self-extinguishing aqueous gels are intrinsically safe, and continue to function after being cut, immersed in water, and subjected to ballistic impact.
