NEW YORK (AP) – Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. said that it is now selling a generic version of Pfizer’s drug Caduet, a treatment for high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Caduet is a combination of the cholesterol drug Lipitor and the blood pressure drug Norvasc, and it is marketed by Pfizer Inc. Ranbaxy said U.S. sales totaled $339 million over the year ended in September.
Ranbaxy’s drug is an authorized generic. In September the company struck a deal with Pfizer that allows it to sell a generic version of Caduet before the patents supporting the drug expire. Lipitor lost U.S. patent protection on Nov. 30, and Ranbaxy is now selling its own generic version.
