Answer Options Response Percent
Yes 69.2%
No 30.8%

We asked our readers to explain why they feel they are, or are not, fairly compensated. Here are some of the responses.

I feel that I am fairly compensated because:

  • I make good money because we make good products and the products make good money.
  • While it is never enough, my wage seems to be solid for what I do and when compared to those around me.
  • I own the business
  • For the location and what I do I feel I am fairly compensated. If I look at the hours I work, I probably am not fairly compensated.
  • Besides my salary, I get a cellphone, health insurance, and other benefits. Last year the company paid for my graduate degree.
  • For the job functions I have, I am paid more than the national average.
  • I work for an academic institution and even though the salary is low, there are other non-monetary benefits.
  • I am able to sustain a good quality of life with my current salary and benefits.

I feel that I am not fairly compensated because:

  • I am doing the job of three people due to reduction of personnel.
  • I went more than 10 years without a raise.
  • Management gets much, much more.
  • This rate of pay is well below that usually paid to one of my technical expertise and experience, even considering the rural area.
  • There is not enough profit from the business yet. All dollars are reinvested.
  • Salary comparison shows me in the lowest 10% for my position.
  • Since workload cannot be trended, senior management doesn’t see what is getting done.
  • I work a lot more than 40 hours a week and remain on call even when I leave the facility.

Question: Have you faced any salary or benefits cuts in the past year?

Answer Options Response Percent
Yes 17.4%
No 82.6%

Question: Have you received a raise in the past year? (check all that apply)

Answer Options Response Percent
Yes, a considerable increase based on performance 19.3%
Yes, a standard increase based on performance 34.5%
Yes, a cost of living raise based on inflation 20.2%
I have been given more incentive-based opportunities for cash rewards 4.2%
I have been rewarded with a stronger benefits package 3.4%
No, I haven’t received any type of salary increase 27.7%

Question: Do you believe that there are adequate job growth opportunities within your company?

Answer Options Response Percent
Yes 53.3%
No 34.2%
Not sure 12.5%

Question: In the past year, have the demands of your job …

Answer Options Response Percent
Increased 76.7%
Decreased 5.8%
Remained the same 17.5%
