Elcometer, a global testing and inspection equipment manufacturer, is set to double the size of its U.K. production capacity. Work has started on the 17,200 ft2 extension at the firm’s East Manchester headquarters, including manufacturing and office space, with the appointment of Trafford-based contractor Russells Construction.
The expansion will allow Elcometer to meet demand for their existing products, to extend the range of coating inspection tools which are already being produced in Manchester, and to allow the development of a new range of ultrasonic NDT thickness gauges.
The new build is located on Elcometer’s own land and will bring their total production and assembly floor space to 30,000 ft2. The factory floor will be finished to a high specification cleanroom standard.
Gareth Russell, director of Russells Construction, says, “This extension will give Elcometer the additional capacity it requires to serve both existing and future demand. We’ve built and refurbished a number of manufacturing facilities over recent years, many in the high tech electrical and scientific sector requiring specific M and E and cleanroom solutions. We’ve developed a specialist knowledge in this field which is certainly being brought to this project.”
