Thermo Fisher launches 250-liter, stackable environmental chambers

A 250-liter Heratherm environmental chamber from Thermo Fisher Scientific

Thermo Fisher Scientific debuted 250-liter Heratherm environmental chambers. expanding its laboratory equipment lineup with smaller, stackable models for stability testing, cell culture and sample storage.

The chambers complement the company’s existing 750-liter versions. The smaller format allows labs to stack units for simultaneous testing under different environmental conditions or for long-term studies, according to Thermo Fisher. Applications include pharmaceutical stability testing, microbiological incubation and food and beverage quality control.

The lineup includes three models: a stability chamber for shelf-life and quality control testing, a CO2 chamber for cell culture, and an incubation chamber for microbiological incubation, and temperature-dependent storage and testing.

Each model includes a programmable touchscreen interface with open or restricted user modes, remote monitoring and automatic data logging. The data-management features support 21 CFR Part 11 requirements and traceability in regulated laboratories.

The chambers use Peltier electric heating and cooling. According to the company, the technology consumes less energy and eliminates hazardous refrigerants compared with traditional compressor-based systems.

“Our stackable 250 L Heratherm Environmental Chambers support efficient and simultaneous testing of different climatic conditions,” said Konrad Knauss, product manager for constant temperature at Thermo Fisher Scientific, in a news release shared over email.
