ICM Registry, the official registry of the new adult entertainment top-level domain (TLD), launched at 11:00am EST, December 6, 2011, for general availability of .XXX domain names.

The new .XXX domain functions as a responsible alternative for sites that offer adult entertainment content and related services. All .XXX sites are appropriately labeled and McAfee Malware scanned. This means Internet users have a clear indication in advance of a site’s content and can surf the Internet with more confidence.

“While adult entertainment is enjoyable to many adults, it is not appropriate for all audiences. We created .XXX to address the unique needs of the online adult entertainment industry. The public response has been overwhelming as consumers and the adult entertainment providers are excited about the benefits and infinite possibilities of .XXX,” said Stuart Lawley, CEO of ICM Registry.

As an added bonus, McAfee scans each .XXX site daily for malware protecting both website operators and consumers of .XXX domains. These are the only domains in the world to benefit from daily malware scanning as a standard, which makes .XXX sites among the safest on the Internet. Every .XXX site will also come with a MetaCert electronic Family Safety label making it easier for users, organizations and parents to adjust their browser settings to restrict access to websites that are clearly labeled as potentially adult oriented content. Over 250 million pages of adult oriented content have already been labeled using the MetaCert technology including the .XXX domain pages.

The introduction of .XXX has quickly become the most successful launch of any new sponsored top level domain. The positive public response has fueled global media interest normally not afforded to a new domain launch. In addition, the global advertising campaign, a first for any adult-related company, includes hundreds of nationally broadcast TV commercials, radio, newspapers and online ads. .XXX domain names can only purchased via accredited registrars. All .XXX domain names will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis with prices set by the individual registrars.
